About this tool.

What you can edit

Trim and combine clips. Remove pauses, split footage at the playhead, and rearrange clips on a multitrack timeline. Place a transition between adjacent clips or adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation.

Add titles and subtitles. Place text over your footage, style it, and set when it appears. Import an SRT subtitle file to edit its text and timing, include captions in your video, or download an updated SRT.

Mix audio and frame your video. Add music or narration on an audio track and adjust clip volume and fades. Use a landscape, portrait, square, or 4:3 canvas to suit where the video will appear.

Use the editor to cut a short product demo, turn a screen recording into a captioned tutorial, or assemble a vertical social clip from footage and still images.

Formats and project limits

Export MP4 (H.264 with AAC) or WebM (VP8 with Opus) at 720p or 1080p and 24, 30, or 60 frames per second. The editor checks which settings your browser can encode. If MP4 is unavailable, try WebM or a lower resolution.

Each project supports a timeline up to 60 seconds, up to 200 clips, and up to 12 imported files totaling 220 MiB. Source audio and video must be 60 seconds or shorter and use codecs your browser can decode. Use standard dynamic range video and mono or stereo audio.

Good questions.
Clear answers.

A few things you might want to know before you start.

Is the video editor free?

Yes. All editing controls are free and exports carry no SoftLimes watermark.

Are my files uploaded?

Your media is read from your device, and the browser handles editing and export locally. The finished video downloads directly to your device.

How do I reopen an edit?

Choose Open project and select your saved .softlimes.json file. Import the original media again to relink it. The project file stores your edits and settings separately from the source media.

Can I add captions to my video?

Yes. Import a timed SRT file from the Captions tab, or add text clips and time them by hand.
